This is an image of the centre section of the ammonite, erected on the
rear wall of the garden at the Bridport Arts Centre.
There are two more spirals, taking the total diameter to over 2m ! These have
designs engraved and raised reliefs depicting aspects of Dorset.
The stoneware sections (one of which is seen above in unglazed condition) are
similar to roof tiles in appearance and fit around and interlock, bolted with
mechanical and chemical anchors to the brick wall.
The glaze used is "manganese gold" which has a chemical make up very
similar to actual ammonite.
The Cost was met by Sponsorship and grants - Including one from West Dorset
District Council.
Much of the design and construction working was done by group members at no
charge.
