This page gives images of pots from the 16th soda kiln firing

Bill Crumbleholme was chief stoker, the bulk of the pots were his "Owls", see the Owls page for an explanation of these. In addition some pots were by members Bill's Evening Class. Fellow Upwey Potter Fil Cooke also had 3 jugs and a dish.

 

Bill's Owls or Costrels were inspired by the Dorset Owls made at Verwood. Additional decoration was added by impressing a jute rope into the damp pot. Various glazes were used to coat the insides and some of the lips and shoulders.
